The benefits of microchipping

Permanent identification

Unlike collars and tags, which can break, fall off, or become illegible, a microchip is a permanent form of identification that lasts for your pet’s entire life.

Higher rate of reunion

According to the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), microchipped dogs are more than twice as likely to be reunited with their owners, and microchipped cats are over 20 times more likely. This small investment significantly increases the chances of a happy reunion.

Proof of ownership

In cases of pet theft or ownership disputes, a registered microchip provides indisputable proof that your pet belongs to you.

Quick and simple procedure

The microchipping process is quick, virtually painless, and can be done during a routine wellness visit.

Peace of mind

Whether your pet is an indoor cat who slips out the door or an adventure-loving dog, a microchip provides an added layer of security. Knowing your pet has permanent identification offers reassurance and can reduce the anxiety of a stressful situation.

What to expect

The procedure

During your appointment, one of our veterinarians will use a sterile needle to inject the microchip under your pet’s skin. The process takes only a few seconds and is no more uncomfortable than a standard shot.

Registration

After the microchip is implanted, we will complete the registration process. This is the most important step! Your contact information will be entered into a national database linked to your pet’s unique microchip number.

Keep your information up-to-date

If you move or change your phone number, remember to update your information with the microchip registry. This ensures that you can be contacted if your pet is found.
